WILLIAM F. HOGAN

William 'Bill' Francis Hogan, 77, of Port Austin, Michigan, formerly of Saginaw, died on Tuesday, October 20, 2015, from complications due to a long-term illness.

He was born in Kinde on April 16, 1938, son of the late Russell and Frances (Wing) Hogan. He and Sandra K. Musich married in Muskegon on June 13, 1964. She preceded him in death on July 25, 1993.

Bill graduated Port Austin High School 1956. He was the first in his family to be a college graduate, graduating from Central Michigan University in 1962, with a Teaching degree. He was an active member of Tau Kappa Epsilon and an alumni member for years. Bill started in a special CMU paid teaching externship at Buena Vista High School in 1960, teaching Math and Spanish. He also taught driver's education and coached athletics Bill earned his Master's degree in 1966 (CMU) and his Ed Specialist degree 1977 (MSU).

He became the assistant principal at Buena Vista High School from 1972-1978. While living in Saginaw he was a member of the First Congregational Church, actively involved in various committees and the Chancel Choir.
Bill relocated his family back to the Thumb and served as principal of North Huron High School from 1978-1995.

After retiring, he served on North Huron's school board. He then served in various interim positions and also at the Huron ISD until he 'retired again' to play golf 'on [his] own schedule'. After that he worked at Bird Creek Golf Course until the summer of 2014.

A very active member of the community, He was a member of the Port Austin Lions Club, he served as Port Austin Mayor for a short term and was on the Port Austin Village Council for years. As current President of Port Austin Community Players and a member since 1981 he was a longtime actor, director, and most noted for his set designs and set construction. He has also served on the PACP board as building manager.

Bill loved golf and travel. His favorite trips were to the Ryder Cup in Ireland, many jaunts to London with friends, golf travel and road trips with family. He loved baseball since childhood and was an avid Detroit Tigers and Spartan fan, he was also known for his construction skills around Port Austin and shooting the breeze at breakfast or with buddies in the evenings. He also loved spending time with his immediate and large, extended family.

He is survived by his two grown children Melissa and Martin (Barbara Corbato), his granddaughter Francesca (Melissa), his adopted 'granddaughters' Courtney and Jessica, and over 100 beloved nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra; one sister Virginia and three brothers; Philip, David, and Robert. also his nieces and nephews: Bruce, James, Patricia, Robert, Audrey, and Nancy.

A Celebration of Life in his honor is being held Open House style on June 4, 2016 from 4:00 pm to approximately 8:00 pm at The Port Austin Community Playhouse, 35 Railroad Street, Port Austin, with a short program from 6:00 – 6:45 in the playhouse, then there will be live music until 8 pm.
