It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Joseph "Bob" Zimmerman, 93, of Port Austin, Michigan, on Wednesday, April 8, 2026. A devoted husband, father, and friend, Bob was a man of deep faith whose long life was defined by his love for his family.

Born in Detroit on October 25, 1932, to William and Anne Zimmerman, Bob grew up in Royal Oak with his three siblings. A lifelong Catholic, he attended St. Mary's school before graduating summa cum laude with a degree in finance from the University of Detroit. In the mid-1950s, Bob served in the United States Air Force ROTC in Texas and Florida. During this time, he met and married Barbara, the mother of his five children.

After his service, Bob returned to Michigan to raise his family and join his father's insurance business. His household was filled with the happy chaos of camping trips, Christmas traditions, and his signature "dad jokes." In the early 1980s, Bob moved his family to Florida to begin a new chapter.

In 1996, Bob married Lucille Katherine "Kathy" Zimmerman, a union that brought him back to Michigan and filled his later years with joy. Following Kathy's passing in 2022, Bob moved to Port Austin to live with his youngest daughter, Jenny.

Bob is survived by his children, Patricia Zimmerman, Stephen (Meg) Zimmerman, Michael (Jerry) Zimmerman, and Jennifer Parrott; daughter-in-law, Lisa Zimmerman; his sisters, Jean McCulloch and Mary (Tom) Hagan; and his stepchildren, Brian (Mimi) McCullough, Susan (Douglas) Reichl, Michael, and Patrice (David) Bradley. He was the proud grandfather of seven and great-grandfather of four. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathy; his eldest son, Joel Zimmerman; and his brother, William "Bill" Zimmerman.

A memorial service will be held on June 4, 2026, at St. Michael's Catholic Church (8661 Independence Ave, Port AusIn, MI). Visitation begins at 10:00 am, followed by Mass at 11:00 am.  Bob's ashes will be interred with military honors on June 5, 2026, at 10:30 am.
