Maria Carmella Brown, 89, of Port Austin died Tuesday, November 6, 2018 in her home.

She was born on July 22, 1929, the daughter of Frank and Paulina (Mazza) Squillace in Jersey City, New Jersey.  Maria and Robert Brown were married in Detroit, Michigan on August 20, 1955.

Maria was a 1979 graduate of Oakland University earning a BA Degree in English and Masters in education there.  She taught at Stevenson High School in Sterling Heights, retiring from teaching in 1987.

She and Robert moved from Sterling Heights to Port Austin in 1992.  They were summer residents in Port Austin from 1982-1992. She enjoyed both reading and writing.

Maria is survived by her husband of 63 years, Robert and three children: Robert (Deborah) Brown of Carrollton, TX, Paula Satchell of Loveland, CO, and Therese (Joel) Tanski of Libertyville, IL.  She is also survived by her grandchildren:  Sarah Brown, Kevin Satchell, Kelsey Satchell, Kit Satchell, Klaire Satchell, Jessica Tanski, Patrick Tanski and great-grandchildren: Elisabeth Gehfeld, Kimber Satchell, Kason Satchell, and Jack Satchell.  Also surviving are her siblings, Joseph Squillace and Anna Amicone.

She was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth Brown and her brothers, Stephen and Michael Squillace.

Funeral Mass for Maria Brown will be Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 11:00 am in St. Michael's Catholic Church of the Annunciation of the Lord Parish in Port Austin.  Visitation will be at the Knoblock Funeral Home on Friday from 3:00 – 8:00 and at the church on Saturday from 10:00 am until the Mass at 11:00 am.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery. There will be a Rosary Service at 7:00 pm Friday at the funeral home.
