Leonard J. Matestic, 69, of Port Austin, passed away on Friday, December 29, 2017 at Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe.

He was born on April 7, 1948 in Caro, Michigan, the son of the late Anthony and Valdislava (Legot)  Matestic.

Leonard attended Ferris State, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree, and a Masters of Arts Degree from The University of Oklahoma.  He served in the United States Air Force.  He worked as Patient Accounting Director at Bay Med. Center, St. Joseph Hospital in Flint, Genesys Regional Center, Grand Blanc, and Huron Medical Center, Bad Axe from where he retired in 2012.  He moved from Flushing, Michigan to Port Austin in 2004.

He was a member of the American Legion Frank Horetski Post 499, Port Austin; The Caseville Eagles 3390.  He loved playing golf, fishing, boating and camping.  He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Leonard J. Matestic is survived by his significant other, Paula Ferrell, his daughter, Tanya (Patrick) Ruddy and his son, Todd Matestic of Emporium, PA.  Also surviving are his grandchildren:  Eva and Ella Ruddy, one brother, Gerald Matestic of Beaverton, MI, and his dog Sadie.  He was preceded in death by his brothers, Raymond Matestic and Ronald Matestic.

A memorial service for Leonard J. Matestic  will be on Friday, January 5, 2018 at the Knoblock Funeral Home in Kinde at 12:00 noon.  Visitation will be from 10:00 am on Friday until the time of the service.
