Jeanette G. Ziel, 78, of Port Austin died Saturday, August 14, 2021, at Meadow Lanes in Bad Axe, Michigan.  Jeanette was born March 27, 1943, the daughter of late Ferdinand and Erna (Rink) Finkel.

She and Henry Ziel, Jr., were married in 1963 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Port Hope.  Together they owned and operated Zielland Farms in Port Austin.

Jeanette was active at her church, St. Peters Lutheran Church in Kinde.  She was involved in bible study as well as various groups and missions.  A 4H leader for many years, she also mentored children as a foster parent.  She, being so universally kind, and willing to accept and embrace anyone into her home, also housed several foreign students who were welcome into the home for months at a time to learn about farming in the U.S.  She was on many local boards, including the school board and many agriculture and local community clubs.

Over the years Jeanette's talent and passion were in her self-taught arts and crafts.  She was accomplished at tole painting, spinning, weaving, cake decorating, pottery and most recently alcohol ink.  Some of her work can be seen at "The Cove" in Port Austin, where she was a resident artist and partner.

Jeanette had a love of gardening and all things in nature.  She always had a vase of fresh flowers sitting on her table.  She had a knack for growing orchids and loved to share her gardening tips with others.

The table was always open to anyone who stopped in whether it was a five-minute visit or an afternoon.  She hosted many gatherings and always had a knack for whipping up a meal in a short amount of time with a fresh baked tasty dessert.

Jeanette is survived by her husband, Henry Ziel, Jr., her children: Mark Ziel of Port Austin, Chad (Suna) Ziel of Caro, Michelle (Steve) Gayari of Pigeon and Crystal Ziel of Albany, New York.  Also surviving are her grandchildren, Hanna Ziel, Shawn Gayari and Kyle Gayari.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, David Finkel.

Funeral Services will be on Thursday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Kinde at 11:00 am.  Visitation will be at the Knoblock Funeral Home in Kinde on Wednesday from 2:00-8:00pm and at the church on Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 am.
