Irene Josephine Veginski went to her heavenly rest on September 30, 2016. She was born in Dwight Township, on June 7, 1924, the daughter of the late Frank and Josephine (Rice) Drake.

She and her husband of 62 years, Felix Veginski, were married at St. Mary's Catholic Church on November 8, 1947. They enjoyed the farm life together. He preceded her in death on August 10, 2010.

Prior to her marriage she lived in the Port Huron area where she helped care for her nieces. She later was employed at the Chrysler plant. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin, where her children also attended school.

Irene had a fun sense of humor and enjoyed her family. She appreciated nature and enjoyed birdwatching, playing cards, and gardening. She was a humble spirit with a generous heart who cared about the less fortunate.

They raised seven children: Gene (Valerie) Veginski of Morton, IL, Barbara Saxton of Bay City, MI, Janet (Rick) Rokicki of Elkton, MI, Annette (Dennis) Jaworski of Milford, MI, Carol Kurta and Kenneth Veginski of Port Austin, MI as well as David Veginski, who preceded her in death.

She had ten grandchildren; Bryan and Kelli, Veginski Angie DeReuyter, Rachel DeLong, Rick Rokicki, Jessica Bruce, Nicholas and Lyndsay Jaworski, Michael Kurta, Derek Veginski, as well as 13 great-grandchildren: Oliver, Owen, Seth, Hunter, Devon, Ayden, Makayla, Malaci, Chloe, Lydia, Logan, Peyton and Brody. She is also survived by her sisters in law, Lillian Drake and Beatrice Drake, and many nieces and nephews.

She is the last surviving sibling of four brothers; Joe, Irwin, Archie and Sylvester and four sisters; Barbara, Regina, Sophie and Alma.

Funeral Mass will be at St. Michael's Catholic Church of the Annunciation of The Lord Parish in Port Austin on Tuesday, at 11:00 am. Visitation will be on Monday at the Knoblock Funeral Home in Kinde from 2:00 to 8:00 pm, and in church on Tuesday from 10:00 until the time of service at 11:00.
