Gerald V. Rice, 81, of Port Austin, died Thursday, April 28, 2022, at his home surrounded by family while under hospice care.  He was born October 30, 1940, to the late Val and Bernice (Koreleski) Rice of Kinde.  He married Lorraine Jaworski on October 12, 1963.

Jerry was a hard-working family man.  He was employed at Active Industries/Tower Automotive for 41 years as a motor mechanic.  He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin, where he also served as an usher.  Jerry enjoyed many simple things in life, such as coaching and watching his kids play baseball throughout their youth.  He also enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers.  He truly enjoyed being outdoors and being in the woods hunting, cutting wood, and being on his tractor.  He bowled for many years on league.  Jerry loved a good card game, listening to polka music, and having a cup of coffee.  (Occasionally a coffee royal).  Jerry also loved his dog, Jake.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lorraine of Port Austin; his children, Scott Rice and Special Friend, Karen of Port Austin, Todd (Colleen) Rice of Shelby Twp., Aimee (Jared) Lemke of Ubly; four grandsons, Benjamin and Jeremy Rogers of Kansas, Nolan Lemke of Georgia, and Brandon Rice of Shelby Twp.  He is also survived by his sisters, Patricia Drews and Margie Szymanski; his brothers, Donald (Denise) Rice, Arnold Rice, and Ricky (Kim) Rice, his sister-in-law, Marilyn Rice; many nieces and nephews; and one special niece, Roxanne.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Renee Rogers; his brothers, Randy, and Walter; his brothers-in-law, Don Drews and George Szymanski; his sister-in-law, Patricia Kretchman; and his beloved dog, Rosco.

Funeral Mass:  Monday May 2, 2022, at 11am at St. Michael's of the Annunciation of the Lord Parish in Port Austin.  Visitation:  Sunday from 4-8pm at the Knoblock Funeral Home in Kinde and on Monday from 10am until the time of service at the Church.  Burial:  Church Cemetery.  Rosary, Sunday evening at 5:30pm at the funeral home.
