Edwin Korn, 86, of Port Austin, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at home peacefully surrounded by his family. Ed was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 24, 1936, the son of the late Edwin and Theresa (Klosowski) Korn.

He graduated from Port Austin Public School in 1954. He spent a year in college and two years serving in the United States Army, stationed in Alaska. He married Doreen Bambach on April 19, 1958. She preceded him in death on July 21, 2014.

While raising his family in Port Austin, Ed was a village Trustee and clerk. In l966 he was elected Mayor and was re-elected 16 times.  Ed was very involved in many community organizations including School Board, Lions Club, Conservation Club, American Legion, Fire Department, Bird Creek Golf Course, Gallup Park, Civic Center renovation, New Library Construction and Water Plant.

He began working at Mayes IGA in 1950 and retired as Store Manager in 2012. He enjoyed traveling with friends, scratching lottery tickets, watching old westerns, and talking sports and politics with his friends.

Ed is survived by his children: Terry McGrath and fiancée Tim Greene, Brian (Jackie) Korn, Michael (Dru) Korn, Laurie Panzek and fiancée Steve Novakovich, as well las 11 grandchildren and 19 great- grandchildren.

Also surviving are his sisters:  Marleen Gracey and Linda (Dick) Murawski, his brother:  Don (Luanne) Korn, In-laws: Jim & Mary Bambach, Dave & Leta Bambach, Janice McAleer Korn, and James & Lenore Bright, along with many nieces and nephews.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; his brother:  Richard, brother in-law:  Jake Gracey, Brother and Sister in-law: Terry & Shirley Bambach, Nephew:  Steve Brights, Mother and Father-in-law: Lillian and John Bambach.

Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service is planned for Saturday, May 21 ^st at the Knoblock Funeral Home, in Kinde. Visitation will be from 11 to 1:00 pm with a short service starting at 1:00 pm.

Memorials may be made to the Port Austin History Center or Port Austin Township Library.
